Gerald T. Carroll, 98, of Middletown, Rhode Island, died on November 13, 2025. He was the husband of the late Frances (Silvia) Carroll. Born in Fall River, MA on September 5, 1927, He was the son of the late William and Mary (Moffitt) Carroll.
Gerry grew up in Fall River, MA and enlisted in the US Navy as young man. He served for over 20 years, starting as a signalman on an aircraft carrier, he was especially proud of his assignment on the USS Midway. His career spanned WWII, Korea, and the Vietnam War, until retirement from active duty as a Chief Petty Officer. He continued to share his expertise with the US Navy as a civilian contract negotiator for another 21 years, retiring in 1987. He was a devoted catholic and attended Mass faithfully with his wife. Gerry was also a member of Middletown Knights of Columbus. Most of his free time was spent with Frances, the two of them loved to travel, driving all over the US and Canada. In more recent years, Gerry enjoyed puzzles and invited visitors to sit down and join him in the sense of accomplishment with a completed puzzle. He also had a competitive side, especially in the weekly scrabble games with his wife and daughters, they would meet up and play scrabble every week for years, and Gerry usually won.
Gerald is survived by his three daughters, Pamela Champion of Middletown, Sharon Nahornick of Groton, CT, and Joanne Potts of Middletown, 8 Grandchildren and 6 Great-Grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Frances (Silvia) Carroll, two brothers William Carroll Jr. and James Carroll, and a sister Ellen Krol.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, November 18, 2025 from 4:00-7:00pm at the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 19 with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in St. Lucy Church, 909 West Main Road, Middletown. Burial with military honors will follow at Newport Memorial Park.
