Gilbert F. Soares Jr.

Gilbert F. Gilly Soares, Jr., 53, of Newport, passed away on Friday, May 25, 2018, at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence.

Gilly was born on October 9, 1964, in Newport, RI, to Gilbert F. Soares, Sr. and Helen (DeCosta) Soares. He was the husband of Marianne Menas.

Gilly was a 1982 graduate of Portsmouth High School. He most recently worked for Visiting Nurse Services of Newport and Bristol Counties in Portsmouth. In his spare time, he was an avid NE sports fan rooting for the Red Sox and Patriots, but particularly loved Nascar, especially Dale Earnhardt, Sr. He was a huge fan of the James Bond films, watching them over and over.

Besides his parents and his wife, Marianne, he is survived by his children, Christos, Eleni, and Theodore, his siblings, James Soares of Portsmouth, Jennifer Papineau and her husband David of Foster, RI, his in-laws, Irene and George Menas of Newport, his sister-in-law, Francine Menas of Nashua, NH, his nieces, Sera Papineau, Faith Papineau, and Kyra Soares.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, May 30, 2018, from 10:00am-12:00pm, at the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.

His funeral service will follow at 12:00pm in the funeral home. Burial will take place in the Middletown Four Corners Cemetery, Wyatt and Turner Roads, Middletown.
