Gordon H. Green Iii

Gordon H. Green III, 67, of Newport died Saturday, February 17, 2018 at home in Newport surrounded by his family. Born October 18, 1950 in Newport, Gordon was the son of the late Gordon H. Green Jr. and Gertrude A. (Shaffell) Green. He was the husband for 45 years to Jane (Marvelle) Green.Gordon attended St. Augustine School and went on to graduate from DeLaSalle Academy in 1969. He served in the Army and was stationed in Korea. Gordon attended Northeastern University majoring in Physics and received his Associates Degree in Fire Science from CCRI. He graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a Bachelors Degree in Fire and Safty Engineering Technology. Gordon joined the Newport Fire Department in 1976 and retired as Captain after 31 years of service. He also worked at the General Electric Plant and was employed by Viking Tours of Newport for over 30 years. His memberships include the Newport Lodge of Elks, IAFF 1080 and Emmanuel Church. Gordon could often be found at the baseball and soccer fields and at the hockey rink cheering on his grandchildren who meant everything to him and gave him great joy.Besides his wife he leaves his sons: Gordon H. Green IV and his wife Jamie of Middletown and Ian M. Green and his wife Courtney of Newport. He was Grandpa and Papa to Quinlan Green, Caleb Green, Mackenzie Green and Lyla Green.Gordon also leaves his brothers Robert Green and his wife Ann of Little Compton and Edward Green and his wife Susan of Middletown. He was the son-in-law of Janet Marvelle of Newport, and brother in law of Daniel Marvelle and Terri Hayes, Robert Marvelle and his wife Lois, and sister in law Bonnie Marvelle. He also leaves his aunt, Phyllis Smith of Middletown and many nieces and nephews especially Liam and Dylan Marvelle who were very special too him.Memorial services will be held Saturday, February 24, 2018 at 11:00AM in Emmanuel Church, 40 Dearborn Street, Newport. Burial will follow in Middletown Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Newport Fire Local 1080 Scholarship Fund, 21 West Marlborough Street, Newport, RI 02840.
