Gracie Ellen Trindade, 84, of Mount Airy, North Carolina and formerly of Portsmouth, RI, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2018 at Mountain Valley Hospice in Dobson, NC.
Gracie is survived by her husband of 33 years, Edmond Trindade of Somerset MA, and her six children - Michael Noriega, Cheryl Williams, Lynne Noriega-Depin, Donna Almeida, Ellen Wilson, Karen Noriega-Baron and their spouses (Maryann, Wayne, Bob, Brian, Dennis and Will). She also leaves her brother David Puckett, her five stepchildren and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her first husband Leopoldo Noriega and her siblings Sylvia, Bertha May, Paola Daniel (PD), Brenda, Wade and Princess.
Gracie was born on February 10, 1934 in Mount Airy, NC, the oldest of eight children to the late Lawrence Rees and Bertha Puckett. She grew up in Mount Airy but later settled in Rhode Island where she and Leopoldo retired from Naval service. After her work as a stay-at-home mother, she graduated from Rhode Island Junior College with a certificate in Licensed Practical Nursing, a field where she worked at the Newport Naval Hospital. She met her husband Edmond, a Navy veteran, later in life and they retired to Mount Airy, NC where they enjoyed a quiet life together enjoying the mountain air and going to Bingo, where they have many friends. She loved antiquing, collecting pretties, reading mysteries and she had a green thumb, cultivating and enjoying her indoor and outdoor plants.
