February 17, 1926 — April 27, 2002

76, of 32 Lawton Brook Lane, Portsmouth, died at home Saturday April 27, 2002. He was the husband of Stella Daglis Volpicelli.Born in Providence, RI on February 7, 1926, he was the son of the late Louis and Immaculata Maria Alvigi Volpicelli.Mr. Volpicelli was a 1944 graduate of Rogers High School and a Veteran of WWII serving in the Navy. He was a licensed electrician having worked for Bestos and Butterton. He worked for the Newport Hospital for 14 years and then for the University of Rhode Island for 10 years retiring from the University in 1986. He volunteered for various organizations including Island Hospice and the Newport Hospital where he was known as Santa Claus for 25 years. He was a communicant of St. Spyridons Church. Mr. Volpicelli was a member of the AHEPA, and the American Legion.Besides his wife he leaves two daughters Angela Volpicelli, and Maria Roberts, two sons Jospeh Volpicelli and Vincent Volpicelli all of Portsmouth, RI, a granddaughter Christine A. Krones.He was the brother of the late Catherine Volpicelli, Francis Volpicelli and Anna Volpicelli Allain.His funeral will be held Tuesday, April 30, 2002 at 10:00AM, in St. Spyridons Greek Orthodox Church, 390 Thames Street, Newport.Burial will be in Middletown Cemetery in Middletown.Donations in his memory may be made to the Portsmouth Volunteer Fire and Rescue Wagon Fund, PO Box 806, Portsmouth, RI 02871 or to the St. Spyridons Greek Orthodox Church, 390 Thames Street, Newport, RI 02840.
