Newport, RI - Harold George Morgan, 79, of 26 Tilley Avenue Newport, RI, died Sunday, December 7, 2003 at Newport Hospital Newport, RI.He was the husband of Violet J. Martineau Morgan. Born in Newport, RI on May 10, 1924, he was the son of the late Frank S. and Amanda Mason Morgan.Mr. Morgan served in the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean War, as a Boatswains Mate 2nd Class serving on the USS Manadnock, diving in Trinidad to dispose of German mines during World War II. After WWII he served in the United States Naval Reserve working at Quonset Naval Air Station as a rigger. He then went to serve in the Korean War, on the USS Toledo Heavy Cruiser. Mr. Morgan delivered milk for the Newport Creamery, worked as a page at the Newport Reading Room and a chauffeur for Perry Belmont. In 1952 he was hired as a Newport Firefighter working at station 1 and station 2, retiring in 1980 after 28 years. He also worked part time at the Newport Preservation Society, and was also a part time painter, carpenter, electrican and plumber. Mr. Morgan was an avid hunter with his best friends Winnie Roggero, Emil Nunes and Elmer Reynolds Sr. Besides his wife he is survived by three sons Harold ?Hap? G. Morgan Jr. of Middletown, RI, Todd Morgan of Hope Valley, RI, and Paul Morgan of Portsmouth, RI, two daughters Gail Shepherd of Newport, RI, and Glenna McCaffrey of Jamestown, RI, his brother Ralph Morgan of Newport, RI, and eight grandchildren.He was the brother of the late Frank E. Morgan and Dorothy Blake. His funeral will be held on Thursday, December 11, 2003, at 8:00AM, from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian burial at 9:00AM, in St. Josephs Church, Broadway And Mann Avenue, Newport. Burial will be in Newport Memorial Park in Middletown. Donations in his memory may be made to the Newport Fire Department and Rescue Wagon Fund, 21 W. Marlborough Street, Newport, RI 02840.
