Helen Marie Crowley

Helen Marie Crowley, 88, of Middletown, Rhode Island, died on June 26, 2026. She was the wife of the late Richard F. Crowley. Born in San Miguel, Azores on March 8, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Edith (Barella) Furna.

Helen was detail oriented and dedicated to getting the job done, and she was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She worked for 21 years at the Naval War College as an Administrative Supervisor, keeping the details exactly correct for dozens of Admirals over the years. Prior to that, she was a caring teacher at Head Start for over 20 years. Helen was also a woman of faith, as a longtime communicant of Jesus Saviour Church and a the Vasco da Gama Holy Ghost Society. She was a very social person, and enjoyed working the events as a bartender, right up until this past year. She also enjoyed playing Bocce with her team at the FOP, gardening and fishing, or a competitive game of scrabble with family. It was her final job that brought her the most fulfillment, as grandmother and great grandmother.

Helen is survived by her children; John Crowley and his wife Diane of Middletown, Laurie Parke and her husband Darin of Ledyard, CT, and Brenda Crowley of Middletown, a brother Louis Furna and his late wife Sandra of Blackstone, VA, Grandchildren; Courtney Smith (Kyle), Britney Parke (Chris Holowaty), Katrina Parke (Travis Viscount), and Christina Saunders, and her Great-Grandchildren; Levi and Jonas Smith, and Genevieve Viscount.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, July 1, at 10:00am in Jesus Saviour Church, 509 Broadway, Newport. Burial will follow at St. Columba Catholic Cemetery, 465 Browns Lane, Middletown.
