Hermina "Minnie" E. (Lopes) Medeiros

Hermina "Minnie" E. (Lopes) Medeiros, 92, formerly of Balsam Avenue, Middletown, RI, passed away, Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at the Village House Nursing Home in Newport.Born on December 29, 1923 in Sao Miguel, the Azores, she was the daughter of the late Agostinho B. and Maria (Medeiros) Lopes. She came to the United States in April of 1931 at the age of 7, with her parents and two younger brothers settling in Newport.She was the wife of the late Joseph C. Medeiros and mother of the late Linda M. Medeiros. She leaves her sister Kathleen M. Reedenauer and brother-in-law Paul of Middletown, RI, and her brothers Edmund J. Lopes of Newport, RI, and Roland A. Lopes of Portsmouth, RI. She leaves her nephew Edmund J. Lopes, Jr., of Newport, RI, her niece Jane T. Lauth of Tiverton, RI and nephew Mark P. Reedenauer of Concord, NH and grandnieces and grandnephews.Minnie attended the Newport School system and worked at Fishman's Department Store, Valet Cleaners and Charlie's 5 10. After the birth of her daughter Linda she was a stay at home mom. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and daughter, especially her fall trips to NH to shop and eat out. She absolutely loved Lobster and her Hershey Kisses. Minnie and her husband Joe did many years of volunteer work at the James L. Maher Center, where their daughter Linda attended for many years. She was a caring and very generous person, a devoted daughter, wife, mother, sister and aunt and will be greatly missed.The family extends its sincere gratitude to the nurses and staff at the Village House for the excellent end of life care she received.She was a communicant of Jesus Saviour Church and member of the Rosary Sodality and a longtime member of the James L. Maher Center.Calling hours will be held on Sunday, September 25, 2016, from 3-6PM, in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.Her funeral will be held on Monday, September 26, 2016, at 9AM, from the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10AM in Jesus Saviour Church, Broadway, Newport, RI.Burial will follow in Newport Memorial Park, Howland Avenue, Middletown.Donations in her memory may be made to the James L.
