Hortense Louise Cordeiro

Hortense Louise Cordeiro, 88, of Newport, Rhode Island, passed away unexpectedly on June 24, 2018, at home in Middletown.Hortense was born in Newport, RI on March 31, 1930 to the late Manuel Silvia and the late Rose (Cademia) Silvia. She was married to the late John S. Cordeiro for 41 years.She worked at Warwick/Ames, was a caregiver for the Kits van Heyningen family and was a Crossing Guard for the Newport School Department until retiring at the age of 81. Her biggest love in life was her family. She enjoyed cooking, bingo, traveling and watching soap operas and Hallmark movies.Hortense is survived by her beloved children; John Cordeiro and his wife Denise of Middletown, Richard Cordeiro and Richard Northup of Lincoln, RI, Rose Mary Mello of Fall River, Linda Cordeiro of Middletown, and Diane Leathem and her husband John, of Middletown. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Geoffrey Pelletier, Melody OBrien, Lou Ann Mello, Jason Mello, Robert Gilman Jr., Emily Cordeiro, John Leathem III and Kristen Cordeiro, and her great grandchildren; Dylan, Anthony, James, Stephanie, Leo, Jason, Justin, Kayley, Hailey, Zachary, Amanda, Devin, Clevante and Kayden and several nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her husband John S. Cordeiro, her parents, her sister Ethel Viveiros, and recently her son-in-law Louis Mello.She was a very loving and caring, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and aunt, she was loved and will be deeply missed by her family and those who knew her.Calling hours will be held on Sunday July 1, 2018 from 4-7 pm in the Memorial Funeral Home 375 Broadway in Newport. Her funeral will be held on Monday July 2, 2018 at 9:00 am from the funeral home, with a Mass of Christian burial at 9:30 in Jesus Savior Church, 509 Broadway in Newport.Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery, Brown's Lane in Middletown
