Jacquelyn Surber Cavalier, 70 of Saunderstown, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Friday, September 28th, 2018. She was the wife of Jeffrey C. Cavalier. Born and raised as a Native Newporter, she was the daughter of Howard J. amp; Agnes T. (Kain) Surber.Besides her husband, she leaves her children, Carrie A. Belden and her husband Allan of Holden, MA, Asa Eric Montgomery and his wife, Lori of Middletown and Courtney Cavalier-Avanesov and her husband, Serge of West Kingston.Jackie was lovingly called Nanny by her 5 1/2 grandchildren who lit up her world and was immensely proud of: Madeline A. Belden, Zachary J. Belden, Asa J. Montgomery, Paige E. Montgomery and Hannah G. Montgomery, soon to be named, little cherub Avanesov.Jackie was beyond blessed to have six wonderful sisters and brothers: Martha Dowda and Pauline Schobert both of Newport, Patrick Splash Surber of Middletown, Janice Maguire of Wakefield and H. James Surber of Portsmouth. She was preceded in death by her brother Michael Splish Surber.Jackie had a life-long love of gardening, dancing and spending time with family and friends. One of her most favorite things was to be surrounded by her family and friends at her home during her famous barbecues. If you were lucky enough to have Jackie in your life, you would attest to her being the life of the party. Her infectious personality and zest for life drew your attention to her and you definitely knew when Jackie entered the room. Jackie was vibrant, caring, loving, witty, and patient. She had also inherited her mothers sense of unfiltered honesty that sometimes got her into trouble.Calling hours will be on Saturday, October 6, 2018 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. Following calling hours, the celebration of her life will continue at the Elks Lodge, 141 Pelham Street, Newport.Donations in her memory may be made to Alzheimers Association, 245 Waterman Street, Suite 306, Providence, RI 02906
