James Henry Cottrell, born on August 24, 1949, in Fall River, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully at his home in Tiverton, Rhode Island, on August 6, 2025. He was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, and a respected member of his community.
James, known affectionately to his loved ones as "Jim," dedicated his life to serving others as a firefighter in the government sector. A proud United States Air Force veteran who served during the Vietnam War, Jim exemplified bravery, dedication, and compassion both in uniform and in his civilian career. He always prioritized the safety and well-being of those he served, and his legacy will be remembered not only for his professional contributions but also for the warmth and kindness he shared with all who knew him.
In his personal life, Jim was an avid fisherman and hunter, often spending weekends hunting or fishing with family and friends. He treasured his time enjoying the great outdoors, whether it was camping under the stars or sharing stories around a warm fire. A passionate sports fan, Jim took great delight in rooting for the New England Patriots alongside his family.
Jim cherished the simple pleasures in life-visiting local breweries to savor craft beer, enjoying a good cup of coffee, and honing his skills at the shooting range. He was also a proud member of the Tiverton Rod and Gun Club, where he formed lasting friendships and shared his love for nature and outdoor sports.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia Cottrell; his sons, Jameson Cottrell and Patrick Cottrell, (wife, Mackenzie); his cherished grandchildren, Wellesley James and Winslet June; and cousins Patsy Hicks and Barbara Nikinas. Each of them became a part of his legacy, carrying forward the love and lessons he imparted.
