It is with profound sadness that we share the news that James Robert Killavey (Jim) beloved husband and father, passed away on September 26 in the early morning hours at The Village House in Newport.

Jim was a talented actor, voice talent, and teacher. He was born on November 28, 1946 (Thanksgiving day) in Providence. Jim attended Catholic schools from kindergarten to College.After high school he spent 6 years with the Christian Brothers.He graduated from the Catholic University of America with honors where he was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa society.

He was predeceased by his parents Anna Louise and James Lawrence Killavey. Jim leaves his wife Cindy (Hardin), his sons Brian, Kevin and wife Erin (Sylvia), his sister Louise (Killavey) and her husband Joseph Delellis, many nieces and nephews, friends, family members and Philly the cat.

Jim taught at Diman Regional Vocational Technical High School for 34 years where he was dubbed "Mr Computer" . He introduced computer use in his special ed classroom and helped to set up the first school Computer Lab.

Jim performed on many stages throughout Rhode Island, especially the Newport Playhouse, bringing laughter and joy to thousands of audience members over the years. His most memorable role, however, was in the summer of 1973 on the Casino Theater stage with the Lyric Theatre Company where he played Hiram Bent in the 1912 Victor Herbert Musical "Mme Modeste" and Cindy Hardin from New Britain CT was cast as his wife. They wed in April of 1974 and performed together in numerous plays, sometimes as husband and wife and sometimes not, for the 52 years of their marriage.

Jim was a sought after voice talent with over 200 titles on ACX and he selected, engineered and recorded many more titles through JimCin Recordings.

Jim absolutely loved riding roller coasters, and since his diagnosis of stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer in August of 2022, his life has been a series of ups and downs. He and his wife (who is not a fan of roller coasters) faced each challenge with courage, faith and each other.

He will be fondly remembered for his kindness, talent and devotion to his wife and family. He was very proud of his sons and his "wonder woman" wife who will all miss him terribly but will treasure every memory he made with them and never cease speaking his name and telling his story.

Funeral service at St. Barnabus Church 1697 East Main Road,Portsmouth at 10:00 am on Wednesday, September 30th, Burial in St. Columba's Catholic Cemetery. Visiting hours are omitted per Jim's request.
