Jane Ellen Sweeney-Kent

It is with great sadness that we announce that Jane Ellen Sweeney, 66, of Newport, Rhode Island, passed away peacefully on November 26, 2025.

A lifelong Newporter, Jane found her greatest joy in the people she loved and in the places that brought her peace. The ocean, the shoreline, and the quiet rhythm of the seasons were her sanctuary. A vibrant athlete in her youth, and a loving wife and mother Jane felt most at home and where she created many of her most cherished memories.

Jane is survived by her devoted husband, Robert Kent; her loving children, Mackenzie and Hillary; her son-in-law, Alex, and her beloved grandson, Auggie, as well as her many cousins and other family all of whom brought immense light to her life. Her family was her heart, and she poured her warmth, strength, and generosity into every moment she shared with them. They were all made stronger and lives richer because of her actions and the gift she gave of herself.

Jane's life was defined by kindness, resilience, and an unwavering love for those around her. She will be remembered for her passion and her zeal, her open heart, and the way she made others feel seen and cherished.

Memorial services will be held privately, in keeping with the family's wishes. In lieu of services there will be a Celebration of Life later this summer, to commemorate Jane and the impact of her amazing life.

Jane's presence will be deeply missed, and her memory will continue to live on in the love she gave so freely.
