Jean S. Lowen, 85, of Middletown, RI passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 2, 2017 at the Grand Islander Center. Jean was born on October 20, 1931 in Palmers Green, London, England to the late Stephen and late Nellie (Pearl) Filmer. Jean spent 46 years with her loving husband the late Philip Lowen. Jean was a wonderfully caring and loving person who enjoyed tending to her English gardens, volunteering at her church, baking incredible desserts and throwing dinner parties for her family and friends. She liked nothing better than to set the Sunday dinner table with her best china and make roast beef, Yorkshire pudding and gravy to share with the family. After the war, she married her dashing Royal Navy husband Philip in England. They then immigrated to Toronto, Canada in 1953 where they started a family and resided for 25 years. In 1978 they purchased the company they both worked for and moved the operation to Rhode Island. They lived in Barrington for 6 years, then bought their dream retirement home in the county in Foster where they lived happily until Phil's passing in 1999. Jean then moved to Middletown to be closer to her grandchildren where she once again started anew. She is survived by her sons, Stephen Lowen (Marlene) of Newmarket Ontario, Canada and Christopher Lowen (Judy) of Portsmouth, RI. Jean also leaves behind her 4 cherished grandchildren, Morgan (Scott) Lowen-Campsall and Samantha Lowen of Toronto, Canada and Rachel and Peter Lowen of Portsmouth RI, as well as several nieces and nephews in Canada and England. Jean was predeceased by her sisters Betty Webb and Christine Madell.
