Jeanne Carlson Cooper, born December 24, 1929 of Newport, RI and Rockport, MA died peacefully December 31, 2008.Mrs. Cooper was a gifted artist who was a longtime member of the Rockport Art Association. Her impressionist work was exhibited in Rockport, Newport, RI, Georgia, and Virginia and is in private collections.Mrs. Cooper was born in Brighton, MA and lived in Rockport throughout her childhood. She married Rockport native Charlie Cooper in 1958. They enjoyed sailing and racing I boats from Sandy Bay Yacht Club. She also worked for many years in professional theater on the North Shore of Massachusetts as a costume and set designer. Mrs. Cooper loved Cape Ann and her Swedish and Norwegian heritage. Her family and friends will remember a gifted artist, a gourmet cook with a spirited sense of humor and compassion for the afflicted. She was predeceased by her husband Charles E Cooper, Jr. of Rockport, MA. She leaves behind three children, Kim Cooper of Newport, RI, Art Cooper of Springfield, MA and his wife Jackie, a daughter, Sandy Cooper of Newport Rhode Island and her grandchildren, Kascia Murray of Rockport, MA, Ingrid and Ian Cooper of Newport, and a beloved friend, Christine Petrarca of Newport, RI.Visiting Hours will be held Saturday, January 3 between 10:30 A.M. and 12:30 in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. A memorial service will follow on Saturday at 1:00 P.M. at the First Presbyterian Church, Broadway and Everett St, Newport. A graveside service will be held on Monday, January 5 at 12 Noon in Beech Grove Cemetery, Pleasant St, Rockport, MA.Flowers may be sent to the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI 02840. Donations can be made in her name to the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to animals
