Jeanne Nicholson, 79, of Harbor House, Newport, Rhode Island, passed away on Saturday, May 7, 2016, at Grand Islander Center in Middletown after several weeks of declining health.Jeanne was born in New Rochelle, New York on January 21, 1937, the daughter of Willard Meyer and Nancy Reinke Meyer. Raised in Illinois and New York, she graduated from Hollins College in 1960, receiving a B.A. in English. She had a career as a public relations executive, as a newspaper book reviewer and columnist, and as a talented visual artist working in pastels. She had studied with artist Wolf Kahn. Her career brought her to New York City and then to Newport several decades ago, where she was a devout parishioner at Jesus Saviour Church. Known as Jeanie to her family, she was spirited and strong-willed, yet sensitive, creative, and very perceptive. We will miss her.She is survived by siblings John Willard Meyer of Granbury, Texas; Sarah Meyer Matchett of Loveland, Colorado; Robert Russell Meyer of Moscow, Idaho; and Nancy Holbert Ford of Hope, Maine, as well as several nieces and nephews.A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Jesus Saviour Church in Newport on May 19 at 9:00AM, followed by burial at St. Columba Catholic Cemetery in Middletown. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul of Jesus Saviour Church.
