Jeffrey Gene Buckhannon passed away peacefully on March 5, 2026, at the age of 80. Born on October 29, 1945 , born in Brooklyn, New York. Jeffrey proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from February 9, 1966, until his honorable discharge on February 8, 1972, attaining the rank of Sergeant.

Jeffrey was known for his kind heart and generous spirit. He valued time spent with family and friends and especially cherished his close relationships with his siblings. He is survived by his Wife Rita Buckhannon; Son Micheal Buckhannon and daughter Katherine Buckhannon; sister, Madalyn Caswell; his brothers, Richard Gordon and Edward Whalens (Sharrie); and his sister, Linda Leonhardt (Kenneth), along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will miss him dearly.

Jeffrey enjoyed life's simple pleasures. He loved playing pool, fishing, and making trips to the iconic Coney Island in New York. His warmth, sense of humor, and easygoing nature made him someone people always enjoyed being around.

Visiting Hours will be held on Monday, March 23, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI.

Military honors and a chapel service will be held on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at 10:00 AM at the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 301 South County Trail, Exeter, RI.

Jeffrey touched the lives of many and will be remembered for his kindness, loyalty, and the love he shared with those around him.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Heatherwood Rehabilitation & Health Care Center and the Visiting Nurse Home & Hospice team for their compassionate care and support during Jeffrey's final days.
