Jeffrey Willis Tenney

October 23, 1980 — February 27, 2018

With a dry sense of humor that would bring joy to anyone's day and with a laugh that was contagious, Jeffrey Willis Tenney was a young man for the ages. He never missed the opportunity to bring a smile to your face and was always "the funny one" at Tenney Family gatherings. Not only was he good for a laugh, if you were ever in need, he would literally give you the shirt off of his back. A true believer in paying things forward and in giving back to his community, Jeff was always focused on others. As a once active member of the Providence Chapter of the Jimmy Fund, Jeff would often chair their golf outings and silent auctions. He was also a strong advocate for Safelight, a nonprofit agency that provides support for survivors of interpersonal violence, sexual assault and child abuse. Jeff was also a member of The Fraternal Order of Free Masons, where he believed they made men to be the best possible versions of themselves. The youngest of six children, Jeff, was born October 23, 1980. He was raised in Duxbury, MA and graduated from Duxbury High School in 1998. He went on to receive his Bachelor of Science degree and a Master's degree in criminal justice from Salve Regina University in Newport RI. After graduating, Jeff lived in Providence, RI where he worked for several years in the pharmaceutical industry. In 2011 he moved to Ashville, NC and later to Arden, NC where he was most recently employed as real estate agent with Coldwell Banker. The mild climate in NC allowed Jeff to enjoy his outdoor hobbies of golf and fishing while on colder days, he was always good for a game of cards with friends. During the hotter days of summer you could find him quoting movies while floating the river or cheering on his beloved Red Sox.Diagnosed with Crohn's Disease in 2015, Jeff battled increasing, but related complications over the past few weeks. Jeff returned to his Heavenly Father and Lord Jesus Christ on February 27, 2018. He is survived by his Parents David Lynn Tenney (Portsmouth, RI), his sisters NancyDee MacFarland (Scott) of Quincy MA and Heather Coggins (Mike) of Jacksonville, FL. His brother Ric Tenney (Megan) lives in Upper St. Clair, PA. While his brother Drew Tenney (Jennifer) lives in Jeff's hometown of Duxbury. His oldest brother Allan Tenney (Eyrin) lives in Fairview, NC. He was able to be with Jeff and provided loving care in the absence of his extended family during his final days. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Outside of his immediate family, Jeff is also survived by countless friends that he considered nothing short of his family as well. All are invited to celebrate his 37 years of life during calling hours on Friday March 9, 2018 from 4:00-7:00pm at Hambly Funeral Home located at 30 Red Cross Ave in Newport.
