Joan G Heald, 81, of Newport, RI died on Sunday, March 12, 2017 at Steere House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of Providence, RI, after a brief bought with cancer.Joan was born in New Jersey. She is the daughter of the late George Sullivan and the late Mildred (Spence) Sullivan. She was the wife of the late Herman V. Weed and the late Thomas S. Heald.Joan was a graduate of Rogers High School's Class of 1954. Her early work experiences where as a Bank Teller leading to other positions within the banking business. Prior to her retirement, Joan was an assembly worker at Transcom in Portsmouth for many years.Joan lived for her family and enjoyed being involved, or engaged, in all aspects of their lives. Her grandchildren were the lift of her life. She loved the t imes she traveled with family, or friends, to various places within the United States. Joan could be often found with a novel of mystery or romance at her side. Her love for the Red Sox's transferred over to the Patriots in their season of play. Some of her favorite things in life were coffee frappes, a Frasch's mocha cake, rides around Ocean Drive, and attending movies with her family and friends. She is survived by her brother Robert Sullivan and his wife Pam of Ocala, FL, her children Theresa Soares (Andrew) of Portsmouth, Michael Weed of Cranston, Mary Robinson (Steve) of Middletown, Deborah Burgess of VA, Karen Harrington (Bill), Beverly Weed of Newport, and Stacy Santos of Portsmouth; her daughter in law Teresa Pavia-Weed of Newport; and her grandchildren Megan Reeder (Colton), Andrea Soares, Nichole Patton (Steve), Isaiah Robinson, Matthew Weed, Stephen Weed, and Julia Santos, her nephew, Tim Sullivan of Newport and her great grandchildren, Alana, Leila, and Jayden.Joan was predeceased by her son Mark Weed and her niece Ellen Sullivan.The family would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the staff at Steere House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and to Hope Hospice of RI for the care and compassion that was given to our Mom during her time there.Her Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 11:00am in St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth.
