John F. Andrews

It is with profound sadness that we announce the parting of John Andrews of Portsmouth, Rhode Island; a beloved husband, father, grandfather, gardener, and friend, who passed away on Monday, August 24, 2026.

He was the devoted husband of Deborah (Timberlake) Andrews with whom he shared 44 wonderful years of marriage. Throughout their life together, he often called Deborah not only his wife, but his best friend- a testament to the love, friendship, and companionship they shared.

He was a loving father to four sons, Ryan Andrews, Kevin Andrews, Thomas Andrews, and Chris Andrews. He was also a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren: Chloe Andrews, Connor Andrews, Simone Andrews, Jack Andrews, Caroline Andrews, Sawyer Andrews, Lincoln Andrews, and Rose Andrews. His family was among his greatest joys, and his love and presence will live on in each of them.

A man with a deep love for the outdoors and a remarkable talent for gardening, he served as the groundskeeper of Beaulieu, the historic mansion on Bellevue Avenue in Newport, for over 30 years. His dedication to the grounds reflected the care and pride he brought to everything he did.

He was an award-winning gardener, especially admired for his roses, lilies, and vegetables. His gardens were more than something he tended-they reflected his patience, creativity, hard work, and love of the natural world. He took great pride in watching things grow and in sharing the beauty and bounty of what he cultivated.

In his younger years, he proudly served in the United States Army, carrying with him the values of service, dedication, and perseverance throughout his life.

He will be remembered for the life he built, the gardens he nurtured, the beauty he created, and most importantly, the love he gave to his family. He leaves behind a legacy of devotion, hard work, kindness, and memories that will be cherished for generations.

He was deeply loved, and he will be profoundly missed.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, September 1 from 3:00-5:00pm at Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, RI.

Donations in his memory may be made to The Three Angels Fund; an organization that provides direct financial grants and assistance to individuals and families dealing with a cancer diagnosis.
