John Leonard Blair passed away on September 1, 2026, at the age of 81. Born on December 22, 1944, in Troy, New York, John lived a life dedicated to his family and his passion for horses.

As an esteemed horse trainer, John devoted much of his life to the equine industry, proudly owning and operating Foxgate Farm, where he trained and taught riding. He was known for his ability to nurture young horses and was a dedicated instructor at Skidmore College. His legacy includes managing the Grand-Prix horse, Arimis, and the many joyful moments spent with his jumper, September Morn, affectionately known as "Seppi."

Beyond his equestrian pursuits, John enjoyed rifle and pistol shooting with the Newport Rifle Club and Tiverton Rod and Gun Club. He shared countless family adventures, traveling to Switzerland to visit Christine's family and annual visits to Cancun, Mexico, where the family enjoyed the sun and surf. He was also known for his love of conversation and adventure and will always be remembered for his hard work and passion for horses. His loyal dog, Tobey, will continue to take good care of everyone.

John is survived by his devoted wife, Christine Blair; his beloved daughter, Erin Kenly McDonald; and his cherished grandchildren, Maggie and Max McDonald. He will also be deeply missed by his father-in-law, John Bassey, and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law. John was predeceased by his brothers, William and Joseph Blair and his treasured dog, Moose.

Calling Hours will take place on Monday, September 7th from 4:00-6:00pm at Connors Funeral Home on 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, RI 02871. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, September 8th at 10:00am at St. Theresa Church on 265 Stafford Road, Tiverton, RI, 02878. Burial will follow at Pocasset Hill Cemetery in Tiverton, RI.

John's spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him. May he rest in peace.
