John D. Murphy

John D. Murphy, formerly of 19 Chapel Street, Newport, passed away on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at Heatherwood Rehabilitation Health Care Center in Newport.He was the husband of the late Janet Murphy.Born in Newport, RI on August 7, 1948, he is the son of the late Harry and Margaret (Seargent) Murphy, and the brother of the late Howard and Henry Murphy, and Dorothy James and Mary Gilchrest.John was kind, gentle and considerate. Born with multiple handicaps, he lived his life gardening, traveling and loving his family.He is survived by two nephews, Timothy and Howard Murphy; a niece, Deb Janise; four great-nephews and two great-nieces.Calling hours will be on Friday, September 2, 2016 from 8:30-9:30 a.m. in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m.in Jesus Saviour Church, Broadway at Vernon Avenue, Newport, RI.Burial will follow in St. Columba Cemetery, Brown's Lane, Middletown, RI.In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to INSIGHT Vision Rehabilitation, 43 Jefferson Blvd. #1, Warwick, RI 02888.
