John J. Vidinha, 88, of Middletown, passed away on June 21, 2018 at the Grand Islander Health Care Center, surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Adelaide M. (Almeida) Vidinha.Born in Middletown, he was the son of the late John M. and Alice (Santos) Vidinha.John served in the Navy during the Korean War. He worked for Newport Oil for 33 years retiring in 1993. He was a life member of the Vasco Da Gama and served as chairman of the Mens Night for many years. He was also a life member of the FOPA Lodge 21 and the Knights of Columbus.John loved watching any New England sports team and cutting the lawn on his John Deere Tractor.Besides his loving wife Lidy of 64 years, he leaves his son John A. Vidinha of Middletown his daughter Suzanne V. Dugan, her husband Jerry Dugan Jr. of Middletown and his daughter-in-law Sharon M. Keeley. John is also survived by his grandchildren Meghan D. Kirwin and her husband Andrew, Jason A. Vidinha, Lindsey M. Vidinha and Kelsey B. Dugan as well as one great-grandson Logan S. Kirwin.He was the father of the late Scott E. Vidinha and brother of the late Gladys C. Vidinha.Calling hours will be held Monday, June 25, 2018 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.There will be a Mass of Christian Burial, Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at 9:30 AM at Jesus Saviour Church, 509 Broadway, Newport.
