John Theodore Parkos, Jr., 62 - affectionately known to many as Japes - of Newport, Rhode Island, slipped quietly from this world on July 17, 2026. Born in Newport on February 12, 1964, he was the son of the late John T. Parkos, Sr. and Evelyn (Diaz) Ferretti. A man of proud Greek and Portuguese heritage, he lived as a true character-enigmatic, magnetic, and full of surprises.

He was a free spirit who chased horizons: skiing down mountains, traveling to new places whenever the mood struck, and diving headfirst into every sport with a fierce competitive fire. Whether on the tennis court, cheering for his beloved Oakland A's, or picking up whatever game was in front of him, John played hard and lived with gusto. He had a deep love of cartoons that kept his goofy, playful spirit alive, and a quick wit laced with dark humor that could instantly light up a room or deliver a perfectly timed zinger. A natural entrepreneur at heart, he poured his energy into starting pizza places and other businesses, always chasing the next big idea with that restless, larger-than-life charisma. He had a well-known love of women that matched his vibrant personality. He lived life fully on his own terms - a vibrant presence who brought chaos, laughter, and unforgettable fun to those around him. He left this world just hours before the birth of his third grandchild, John T. Parkos IV - the world blessed him with new life even as he said goodbye.

John is survived by his four sons-John T. Parkos III (Ireland) of Newport, Gregory Parkos (Marlen) of Tiverton, Alexander Parkos (Lucia) of Southington, CT, and Biagio Parkos of Meriden, CT-his siblings Theodore Kerry Parkos of Fall River, MA, Deborah Flaherty of North Kingstown, RI, and Dana Pimental of Saint Johns, FL, and his beloved grandchildren Gregory T. Parkos Jr., Eleanore Parkos, and John T. Parkos IV. He also leaves his aunts, Elaine Parkos Holder and Barbara Parkos, both of Newport, along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A private funeral service was held at St. Spyridon's Greek Orthodox Church, with burial following at Island Cemetery in Newport.
