John Silva departed this life on Monday January 8, 2018.He was born on February 16, 1930 in Providence, RI to the now deceased Domingo Silva and Mary (Grant) Silva. He attended school in Providence and later was an apprentice in Carpentry.John was a carpenter and he loved to build, he also loved to cook. Some of his accomplishments in life were: a successful Contracting business ( Silva Son) which built a day care center in Providence, RI converted a pool hall into a church in Newport and purchased converted the 1st floor of a building into a restaurant (Silva's Barbecue) fulfilling one of his dreams. John loved to cook and serve whenever there was an opportunity.There were significant people in John's life that helped him achieve his goals. There was a carpenter who taught him, a friend Anderson Kurtz who worked with him and encouraged him in his endeavors, and spiritual leaders Elder Michael Brown and Bishop Harvey L. Lewis, who was his spiritual father. He was a great support to his wife Carolyn Silva who pastored a church. John served as a deacon in the church, serving in the district and State of RI in the Church of God in Christ.Preceding him in death was a daughter Evelyn Underwood, two sisters and four brothers.Leaving to mourn is his wife Carolyn Silva of 39 years, four children: Rosalyn Soares, Vivian Graham, Mary Frazier and John Silva Jr. He also leaves five stepsons: Stephen, Glenn, Brian, Darrin and Kenneth Robinson as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends.
