John Souza

John Souza, 79, of Portsmouth died surrounded by his family on Sunday, August 28, 2016 at Rhode Island Hospital. John was born May 13, 1937 in Tiverton, RI, the son of the late Joseph Peter Souza and Rose (Ferreira) Souza. He was the husband of Dorothy (Birkett) Souza. John worked as a commercial fisherman out of Newport for over 50 years.Besides his wife of 56 years, Dorothy (Birkett) Souza of Portsmouth, he is survived by a daughter Donna McCart and her husband Timothy of Hoosick Falls, NY and three sons John Souza of Portsmouth, RI, Stephen Souza and his wife Karen of Portsmouth, RI and Joseph Souza and his wife Mary of North Kingstown. He is also survived by two sisters: Louise Mulcahy and Anne Turcotte, both of Tiverton, and one brother Antone Souza of Little Compton; He also has five grandchildren, Meghan Souza, Stephen S. Souza, Maria Souza, Joshua McCart, and Erin McCart.Calling hours will be held on Thursday, September 1, 2016, from 10:00am-11:00am at Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, followed by a funeral service at 11:00am in the funeral home.
