Jonathan Bartlett Spofford

Jonathan B. Spofford, 77, of Portsmouth, Rhode Island, passed away suddenly on November 11, 2018 at Newport Hospital, with his wife Connie by his side. Jonathan was born November 11, 1941 in Bayonne, NJ to the late Leslie Spofford and Ruth (Bartlett) Spofford.Jonathan was married to Constance " Connie" (Fitzgerald) Spofford for over 52 years.Jonathan served in the U.S. Navy from 1959-1968 as an optical man and served aboard the USS Shenandoah and USS Cadmus. After leaving the Navy, he went on to college.Jonathan graduated from Roger Williams University with a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, and began his career at Brown and Sharp, and then later for different government contractors. John was an avid sailor and was a member of the St. Georges Bermuda Dinghy Club, and made the Newport to Bermuda 1-2 sail two times. He and his wife Connie, loved to travel and went on 3 cross country motorcycle trips in their years together. John also had a private pilot license, and built several professional-quality boat models.Jonathan is survived by his wife Connie and sister Carmen Spofford-Wick and brother in law Bruce Wick. He also leaves behind several cousins.Funeral Services and Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations to a favorite Veterans charity would be appreciated.
