Jonathan Eells Welles, 62, died suddenly on April 17, 2017 at his home in Jamestown RI due to heart failure. Born in Saranac Lake, NY, he was the son of the late Edward OMalley Welles and Frances Eells Welles, formerly of Washington, DC. Retired last year from Citigroup as a Supervisory Equities Analyst, he was an alumnus of The Hotchkiss School and Claremont McKenna College. He was a writer, a golfer, a man of singular vision and broad mind, an optimist, a true gentleman. He had lived in Paris, Rabat Morocco, Lagos Nigeria, Addis Ababa Ethiopia; and Washington DC, New York City, Venice Beach, CA, Naples FL, and San Francisco. With gregarious wit he entertained often with exotic stories. A devoted husband and father, he was beloved by his wife Paulette and his son Sam of San Francisco. In addition, he is survived by a sister Parmelee Welles Tolkan of Lake Placid, NY and a brother Edward Welles of Kennebunkport, ME. He is mourned and survived by the Welles, Thibault, Eells, and Chisholm clans, and many loving friends. Taken from us far too soon, he leaves an emptiness in our lives, but continues to fill our hearts. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at 11:00am in St. Matthews Episcopal Church, 87 Narragansett Ave, Jamestown, RI.
