Joseph M. Jordan

Joseph M. Jordan, 94, of Middletown died Monday, November 14, 2016 at Village House Nursing Home in Newport, RI. He was the husband of the late Julia H. (Soeira) Jordan, his loving wife of 71 years.Born on September 12, 1922 in Newport, RI, he was the son of the late Antone and Julia (Medeiros) Jordan. He grew up working with his siblings on the family farms in Middletown and Newport.Joseph served with the Navy Seabees during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He was a master mason and bricklayer for over 50 years. Mr. Jordan was a lifelong parishioner of Jesus Saviour Church in Newport. Joe enjoyed the outdoors, and took pride in caring for his yard and gardens. He was a dedicated and caring father, a doting grandfather and a wonderful role model to his grandchildren. He is survived by his children, David A. Jordan of Worcester, MA, Donna M. Shoppell of Middletown, RI, Joseph A. Jordan of Florida, his brother John Jordan of Michigan, eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his daughter Julia M. Finn, and seven of his eight siblings.His funeral will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2016, at with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in Jesus Savior Church, Broadway, Newport. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Columba Cemetery, Browns Lane, Middletown.In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to James L.
