Joseph V. Macedo, age 71, of Middletown, passed away on September 20, 2018 at Royal Middletown Nursing Center with his loved ones by his side after a long battle with Parkinsons Disease. Joseph was born in Taunton, MA to Joseph D. and Mary (Lima) Macedo. Joseph is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Diane (Labonte) and his daughters Wendy Morrison and son-in-law Daniel of Woodstock, GA, his daughter Amy Niles and son-in-law Kenneth of Hopkinton, RI and his son Jeffrey Macedo and daughter-in-law Kathryn of Providence, RI and his sister Lorraine Higgins of Mansfield, MA. In addition he leaves his beloved grandchildren, Kayla, Jacob, Luke, Connor and Megan of Woodstock, GA and his in-laws Yvonne Labonte of Taunton, MA, Robert and Edna Labonte of Raynham, MA and Marvin and Irene Simon of Cranston, RI and three nephews and a niece.
He attended St. Marys Seminary in Kentucky, received an Associates Degree from Johnson and Wales, and a Bachelors Degree in accounting at Husson College in Bangor, Maine. He retired as a Budget Analyst from NUWC after a 38 year career. He served for many years on the School Board of the former Newport County Catholic Regional School. He was a communicant of St. Lucys Church and was a guitarist in the choir for many years. He was a quiet family man, known as Pepe to his grandchildren, an avid reader, and a big fan of The Beatles, the Patriots and the Red Sox. He was known by many for his infectious smile. The family would like to express their gratitude for the excellent care given to him by the staff of Royal Middletown Nursing Center, especially primary caregiver, Terry.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, September 24, 2018 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, September 25, 2018 from the funeral home at 8:00am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00am at St. Lucys Church, 909 West Main Road, Middletown.
