Joyce A. Borges

Fall River, MA - Joyce A. Smith Borges, 62, of 1820 Highland Avenue, Fall River, RI, formerly of 560 Middle Road Portsmouth, died Sunday, April 27, 2008 at home. Born in Newport, RI on November 7, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Edward L. and Reba Windley Smith.Mrs. Borges was a 1963 graduate of Rogers High School. She worked for 10 years as a business manager for Purvis Industries of Middletown. Prior to Purvis she worked at the Highland House of Fall River. She was a former member of Trinity Church. Mrs. Borges enjoyed sewing, crocheting, cake decoration and had made most of the wedding cakes for the family. She loved nothing more than being with her grandchildren and playing games with them. She also loved her neighbors and friends. She is survived by her daughter Cheryl Marie Engler of Dighton, MA, her grandsons Richard C. Engler and Douglas C. Engler of Dighton, MA, her sisters Janice Marie Murphy of Winter Haven, FL and Patricia DeArruda Raposa of Portsmouth, RI, and her nephews, James E. DeArruda of Torrance, CA, John J. DeArruda of Portsmouth, RI, Donald D. Murphy, Jr. of Little Rock, AK and Brian G. Murphy of Rowlett, TX. Her funeral will be held on Friday, May 2, 2008, at 11:00 am in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. Burial will be private.Calling hours will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2008, from 5-8 in the funeral home.
