It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Juana Porcioncula Abua, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, who left us on February 3, 2026, at the age of 88. Born on May 18, 1937, in San Juan, Kalayaan Laguna, Philippines, Juana lived a rich and vibrant life that touched many.
As a devoted Certified Nursing Assistant at Newport Hospital for an impressive 36 years, Juana dedicated herself to caring for others, showcasing her extraordinary compassion and unwavering spirit. Even after retirement, her passion for helping those in need led her back to work where she continued to share her warmth and kindness.
Juana was not only known for her caring nature but also as a businesswoman, proudly owning and operating Era's Oriental Store, which became a cherished part of the community. Her life was beautifully intertwined with her husband, Salvador, with whom she spent 50 wonderful years. Together, they celebrated their heritage, including his founding of the Filipino American Association of Rhode Island-a testament to the love and pride they carried for their culture.
Juana is survived by her loving children, Julieta, Bernard, Jose, and Era, who will carry her legacy of love forward. She will also be deeply missed by her grandchildren: Diana, Kristina, Marisa, Jonathan, Antonio, Faustina, Brian and Eric and Great- Grandchildren Arabella, Ariah, Javian, and Erin each of whom brought her immense joy and laughter.
To honor Juana's remarkable life, a Mass of Christian Burial will be held on February 23, 2026, at 9:30 am at St. Joseph's Church at Mann Ave and Broadway.
Burial will follow at St. Columba Catholic Cemetery, 465 Brown's Ln., Middletown.
We invite family, friends, and all who knew Juana to join us in celebrating her life and the beautiful memories she created. Let us come together to share our stories and remember the light she brought into our lives. Juana will forever remain in our hearts, a beacon of love, resilience, and unwavering spirit.
