Julia Cunha

Middletown, RI - Julia White Cunha, 92, of 15 Rosedale Avenue, Middletown, RI, died Sunday, April 12, 2009 at Forest Farm Health Care Center, Middletown, RI.She was the wife of the late Charles T. Cunha. Born in Portsmouth, RI on Aug. 17, 1916, she was the daughter of the late John P. and Mary Lima White.Mrs. Cunha worked as a laundry attendant for the Navy Exchange in the Uniform Shop. She was a member of Vasco da Gama, the Holy Ghost Society, the Middletown Senior Center the Portsmouth American Civil League Newport and Holy Rosary Sodality at Jesus Saviour Church. Julia loved cooking, sewing, volunteering, family outings and holidays with her family. She had a real zest for life. God took her speech but her eyes and smile spoke for her. She is survived by her brother Herbert White of Tiverton, RI, her sister Dorothy Hitsman of Michigan, several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and one great-great nephew and one great-great niece.She was the mother of the late Charles Cunha and the sister of the late Joseph White, John White, Manuel White, Francis White, Mary Silvia and Josephine Silvia. Her funeral will be held on Thursday, April 16, 2009, at 8:00am, from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00am, in Jesus Saviour Church, Broadway and Vernon Avenue, Newport.Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown.Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, April 15, 2009, from 4-8 in the funeral home.
