Katherine Elizabeth Browner

Katherine Elizabeth Browner, 66, of Newport passed away quietly on Wednesday, February 22, 2017. She was the daughter of the late Frances G. Batey and Russell E. Batey (North Providence, RI). Katherine was born in Newport on May 6, 1950, attended the public schools of Newport, and was a lifelong resident. Katherine married Michael N. Browner, Sr. (Somerset, MA) in Cleveland, OH on August 19, 1978 and was the devoted mother of three sons: Donald, Russell, and Michael, Jr. Katherine worked as an assembler for Raytheon Company in Portsmouth for many years and was a homemaker who loved to cook for family and friends. Katherine also loved to sew and knit and was also a lover of music (Lou Rawls and Natalie Cole were two of her favorite artists). Katherine was a deeply devoted mother and grandmother.Katherine leaves to cherish her memory, her three sons, Donald F. Browner (Keisha) of Newport, Russell E. Browner of Fall River, MA, and Michael N. Browner, Jr. of East Providence. Katherine also leaves seven grandchildren, Ryan Browner, Austin Browner, Luke Browner, Marcus Browner, Bryann Browner, Robert Evans, Jared Ford, and three great grandchildren. Katherine also leaves her beloved father Russell E. Batey of North Providence, a dear sister Barbara Hargrow of Middletown, an aunt Ernestine Welch of Baltimore, MD, and a host of relatives and close friends. Services for Katherine will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2017 from the Community Baptist Church in Newport, with a wake at 10 am followed by a funeral at 11 am.
