Kathleen Doherty

Kathleen T Doherty formerly of New York City, died Saturday, November 18 at home in Newport, RI. Born February 7, 1927 in Manhattan to John Sheridan and Rose Flood Curran, Kathleen enjoyed a long career with the New York Telephone Company. After a short break she returned to work in the Catholic Archdiocese of New York. Kathleen was a loving and supportive mother to four children she raised alone, Patricia Chase of Portsmouth RI, Joan Breakell of Newport RI, Michael Doherty of New York City and Thomas Doherty of San Francisco. She was the proud grandmother of nine cherished grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She also leaves her sisters Rosemarie Doherty of New York City and Nancy Ryan of Fernandina Beach, FL, and many nieces and nephews and friends in New York and Newport. Her beauty, bravery, ready wit, generosity and strength will be missed by all who knew her. A brief service of remembrance for her friends in Newport will be held at the St.Clare Chapel, 309 Spring St. at 1:30pm on Friday Dec.1 In lieu of flowers, donations in Kathleen's name to Visiting Nurse Services of Newport and Bristol Counties Hospice or the Womens Resource Center of Newport would be appreciated.
