Kathleen "Kay" M. Faria, 92, of Portsmouth passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, October 15, 2017 at her daughter's home in Portsmouth. Mrs. Faria was born in 1925 in Rockland, ME. She is the daughter of the late William H and the late Frances V (Knowlton) Weed. She was married to the late Joseph E Faria. Soon after graduating from Rockland High School in 1943, she and her best friend volunteered to go to Hyannis, MA where operators were needed during the war effort. With their friendly and cheerful personalities, they became known as the Sunshine Girls", as they rode their bikes around town. Later, they moved again, to Newport, RI, where Kay met her future husband, Joseph E. Faria. His family was very welcoming and she quickly made many new friends on Aquidneck Island, where they happily settled down for the rest of their lives. Although RI became her home, she always loved introducing family and friends to the beauty of Maine. There were many visits to the Rockland Lobster Festival in her childhood hometown, where her sister, Eleanor, lived, as well as many visits to the Sebago Lake Region, which is where her brother, Charlie and his family settled. Kay returned to work as an operator for ATT later in life, working in Newport, Fall River, MA, and Providence, RI before retiring in 1986. She was also active in the Portsmouth United Methodist Church community, Telephone Pioneers of America, the Girl Scouts of America and VFW Post 4487.
