- Kenneth J. Williams, 68, of 53 Founders Avenue Portsmouth, formerly of Providence, Rhode Island, died Monday, August 26, 2002 at St. Annes Hospital Fall River, MA. He was the husband of Carol Walsh Williams. Born in Providence, RI on November 5, 1933, he was the son of the late Wilson S. and Dora A. Jennings Williams.Mr. Williams served in the Air Force for seven years, including time stationed in Germany and was later in the Submarine Division of the Naval Reserves. Mr. Williams was a salesman for many years for the Sawyer Schools. Previously, he was a salesman for over 20 years with the Royal Typewriter Company. Mr. Williams was also a former member of the Providence Fire Department, a former employee of the Narragnasett Brewery and a former salesman for Dodge Motors. He was an avid baseball player, playing with the Air Force in the Armed Forces League, the professionally with the Braves Organization and most recently with the Over 50 League. He also coached womens softball.Besides his wife he is survived by his son Kenneth J. Williams Jr. of White Plains, NY, and his brother LeRoy Williams of East Providence, RI.He was the brother of the late Wilson Williams Jr., Ellsworth Williams, Bernice Jones and Irene Moreino. His funeral will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2002, at 11:00am, in the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth. Burial will be in Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter. Donations in his memory may be made to the Portsmouth Volunteer Fire Dpt. Rescue Fund, P.O. Box 806, Portsmouth, RI 02871.
