Kim Douglas Wray, 63, of Catonsville, MD, passed away Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at Newport Hospital in Newport, RI.
Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Douglas and Evelyn (Spencer) Wray.
Kim loved to be in the company of family and friends, cooking, and feeding those he loved. He also enjoyed traveling, and attending yearly festivals including the biyearly rec reunion in Newport. An avid reader, and intellectual Kim had a vast knowledge of historical data. Kim loved sports playing basketball, running, swimming, fishing, horseback riding and of course watching football supporting his favorite team the Washington Redskins.
Kim joined the U.S. Army in 1976 and served with distinction for more than fourteen years earning the respect of peers, supervisors and senior military and civilian leaders for his highly technical medical and leadership skills. Kim was stationed at many locations throughout the years including Wiesbaden Air Base in Germany where he served as a respected Combat Medic, Walter Reed National Medical Center in Washington, D.C., Tripler Army Medical Center in Oahu, Hawaii and Kimbrough Ambulatory Care at Ft. Meade, Maryland for 24 years until his retirement.Kim received a number of service awards including the highly coveted Expert Field Medical Badge.
Kim leaves behind his companion of 28 years Beatrice Kinsey and step-son Gerard Spivey of Catonsville, Maryland. He also leaves behind sisters: Evelyn Spencer of Providence, RI, Carolyn Silva, Newport, RI, and Charlotte Chapman, Naomi Grandy of California, brothers William Charles Wray and his companion Jacqueline Killian, Newport, RI and Zebedee (Sonny) Keys of California.
He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews.
Kim was the brother of the late Z.L. Hardy, Fred Wray, James Wray, Walter Wray, Tony Wray, Winnette, and Jean Jordan. He was also preceded in death by Zebedee Sr., Margie Keys, nephews Gregory Northup and Kevin Spencer, and niece Lakeisha Moore.
Visitation hours will be held Friday, November 9, 2018 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI.
Relatives and friends may also visit with the family from 10:00AM to 11:00 AM in CrossPoint Church, 14 Rhode Island Avenue, Newport, RI. Funeral will begin immediately following at 11:00AM.
Burial with Military Honors will follow at Newport Memorial Park, Middletown, RI.
