Leo Anthony Boiani

Leo A. Boiani, age 93, of Newport, Rhode Island, passed away on May 22, 2018, at the John Clarke Nursing Center.

Leo was born in Newport, RI on April 19, 1925 to the late Savino Boiani and Carmella (Maggioli) Boiani. Leo was the husband of Doris (Ciavarini) Boiani for 70 years.

Leo attended De Lasalle Academy and took part in the athletic programs there, earning three varsity letters in both basketball and football. After high school, he went into the US Army, proudly serving during WWII. He later entered the painting business, working in many of the mansions in Newport and Bristol. After retiring in 1987, he mostly enjoyed spending time with his family.

Besides his wife, Doris, he is survived by his son, Leo A. Boiani, Jr. of Newport, his daughter, Susan Mascena of Bristol, his sisters Yolanda Boiani and Carol McManus, both or Portsmouth, five grandchildren, Melanie, Mark, Carisa, Rachel and Angela, and three great grandchildren, Brittany, Emma and Nicholas.

He was predeceased by his sister, Elisa Sullivan, and his brothers, Aldo, Alfred, Eugene and Benny.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, May 29, 2018, from 8:30-9:30am, in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday at 10:00am in St. Josephs Church, Broadway and Mann Avenue, Newport.

Burial with military honors will take place in St. Columba Cemetery, Browns Lane, Middletown.
