Leon R. Bush

Leon R. Bush, 89, of Newport formerly of Gibbs Avenue died peacefully with his family by his side on Sunday, February 4, 2018 at the Village House Nursing Home, Newport, after a long 8 year journey with his illness, he never lost his sense of humor.For 64 years, he was the husband of Jeannette M. (DeSantis) Bush, their love story began when Jeannette was 16 and Leon was 19.Born on March 4, 1928 in Meriden, CT, he was the son of the late Charles and Catherine (Mueller) Bush. Leon served in the U.S. Army during Korea, he then returned home to a long career with the Newport Electric Company. He retired in 1990 as Superintendent of the Meter and Service Department. Leon and Jeannette spent every day of the summer at second beach and wintered in Naples Florida. They often enjoyed long walks from their home on Gibbs to Bailey's Beach. Leon was an avid reader and New England Sports Fan.Besides his wife, he is survived by his children, Leon R. Bush, Jr. of Middletown, RI, Jeannine M. Corr and her husband Stephen of Middletown, RI, Catherine A. Turner and her husband Paul of Middletown, RI and Ruth A. Mourachian and her husband Robert of Tiverton, RI, two granddaughters, Jeanette Hamilton and Holly Hamilton and three great grandchildren, Dallas Gray, Talan Hamilton and Desiree Gray as well as several nieces and nephews.He was the brother of the late Charles J. Bush Jr., Beverly Pine and Gladys Malone.Calling hours will be held on Thursday, February 8, 2018 from 9:00AM to 11:00AM with a service to follow at 11:00AM in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.Burial with military honors will take place at St. Columba Cemetery, Browns Lane, Middletown.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Village House Activities Fund, 70 Harrison Avenue, Newport, RI 02840 or to The Autism Project, 1516 Atwood Avenue, Johnston, RI 02919.
