Lucy Lucille H. (Howes) Popple, age 88, of Middletown, RI, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 7, 2018 at John Clarke Nursing Center in Middletown.
Lucy was born on February 8th, 1930 in Mount Chase, Maine to the late William Howes and Alice (Lane) Howes. Lucy was the wife of Paul D. Popple of Middletown, RI. She was the youngest of nine children and continued to live on the farm where she was raised with her parents.
Following her parents passing, Lucy came to Newport through the offer of friends and began to work at Tommys Diner. Lucy met her husband, Paul, in August 1958 while planting a silver maple sapling in the yard of Pauls parents. Lucy and Paul were married that same year, on November 24th, 1958 at Saint Pauls United Methodist Church; and as longtime members of St. Pauls, they both served as faithful sextons of the church for over twenty years.
For 35 years, Lucy and Paul owned and operated Popples Venetian Blinds, until their retirement in 1994.
Lucy is survived by her husband Paul Popple of Middletown, her dear niece Debra Erickson of Montana, as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by parents and her sisters Isa, Delcina, Kathleen, and Kathyrn Howes, and brothers Kermit and Wesley Howes and two infant brothers.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 15th, 2018 at 2:00 pm in Braman Cemetery, Farewell St. Newport.
