Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Madeleine M. Pencak, who departed this life on her 77th birthday, January 29, 2026. Born on January 29, 1949, in Fall River, Massachusetts, Madeleine gracefully touched the lives of all who knew her with her kindness, warmth, and dedication to others.

Madeleine was a proud graduate of Bristol Community College, where she earned a degree in Business Administration in 2000. She devoted much of her professional life to serving her community. Madeleine worked as an Administrative Assistant at Newport Hospital for 18 years, where she was known for her professionalism and compassion. She later served as the Registrar of Voters for the Town of Portsmouth, Rhode Island, a role she held with great integrity and commitment for nine years until her retirement. Her dedication to civic duty and her passion for ensuring a fair and accessible electoral process earned her the respect and admiration of colleagues and residents alike.

Above all, Madeleine cherished her role as a devoted wife to her beloved husband, John Pencak Jr. Together, they built a life filled with love, companionship, and shared experiences. Their deep bond and unwavering support for one another were an inspiration to all who knew them. Madeleine especially enjoyed walking, exercising, and traveling alongside her husband John. Her laughter, generosity, and gentle spirit will be deeply missed by her loving husband and by everyone fortunate enough to have known her.

A Memorial Service will be held in Madeleine's honor at St. Barnabas Catholic Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth, Rhode Island, on February 10, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. Friends, family, and community members are invited to gather to celebrate her beautiful life and to offer comfort and remembrance during this time of grief.

Madeleine M. Pencak leaves behind a lasting legacy of love, service, and devotion to her family and community. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that contributions be made to a charity of one's choice in her memory.

Madeleine was preceded in death by her parents, William Phinney and Helen Phinney.
