Marcelle Juliette (Spooner) Casavant, 95, of Daytona Beach, FL died Saturday, May 16, 2015 at home. Born in Newport, she was the daughter of the late John and Marie (Jonet) Spooner. She was the wife of the late Raymond A.Casavant. Mrs. Casavant attended the Rhode Island School of Design and the Corcoran Gallery School in Washington, D.C. She worked as a Draftsperson at the Newport Torpedo Station and Engineering Draftsperson at the Main Navy Building in Washington, D.C. In 1954, she taught at the St. Michaels School in Annandale, VA for 10 years. Marcelle went on to work as a night supervisor at Sears Roebuck in the Catalog Department in Alexandria, VA. In 1970 she moved to Portsmouth, RI and worked at the Middletown Sears and Roebuck in the Catalog Department. She taught art work at Portsmouth High School-Night School and for 15 years taught water colors at Swinburne School and at the Edward King Center. Marcelle was a well-known watercolorist with numerous shows. She was a member of the Spring Bull Gallery, the Providence Art Club, and the Newport Art Museum and was also a former member of the Water Color Society. She served as Past President of the Bonita Springs Art League of Southwest, Florida. For many years, Mrs. Casavant painted the first place winner of the Newport in Bloom competition.She leaves a son Andrew H Casavant and wife Cindy of Daytona Beach, FL and a daughter Pamela Venditouli of Newport, RI as well as seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.She was the sister of the late Marie Louise Betty.Calling hours will be held on Thursday, May 21, 2015, from 5-8pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.Funeral services will be held Friday, May 22, 2015 at 8:00AM from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00AM in St. Lucys Church, 909 West Main Road, Middletown, RI.Burial will follow in St. Columba Cemetery, Browns Lane, Middletown.Spiritual donations welcomed.
