Margaret E. Peabody, 79, of Newport, died unexpectedly at home on Thursday, December 6, 2018. She was the wife of Jack Peabody for the last 42 years. Miggy, as her friends and family called her, was born in Newport on July 26, 1939 to the late Frank A. Toner and Grace Anne (Congdon) Toner. She grew up in the Tilley Ave neighborhood of Newport and attended Newport schools. For years she worked for her familys restaurant, Toners Diner.
Margaret enjoyed bowling and bingo as a young woman, but over the last several years she doted over her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband Jack, her children Robert Peabody and his wife Nina Williamson of Middletown, Joseph Garcia of Cumberland, RI, her siblings Frank Toner of Bonita Beach, FL, Liz Paradise of Portsmouth, and her grandchildren Ray Peabody, Billi Peabody, Breyden Peabody, and Colton Peabody.
She was preceded in death by her son Robert D. Garcia and her siblings Richard Toner, Helen Toner, and Anne Gomes.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, December 15 at 9:30am in Jesus Saviour Church, Broadway, Newport. Burial will be private.
