Margaret Estelle Gaston

Margaret Estelle (Chaves) Gaston, 91, of Turner Road, Middletown died Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at Grand Islander Health Care Center of Middletown. She was the wife of the late Melton Marvin "Curly" Gaston.Born on July 9, 1925 in Middletown, RI, she was the daughter of the late Joseph J. and Rosalind (Dutra) Chaves. Mrs. Gaston worked at Newport Hospital for 35 years, retiring in 1986. She was a communicant of Jesus Saviour Church and for many years was actively involved with Middletown Senior Citizens Center. She was born, raised and resided in Middletown her entire life. She spent many winters in Englewood, FL where she and her husband were both active members of the retirement community there. Margaret and her husband celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary before he passed. It was one of the happiest days of her life. She enjoyed spending most of her time with her family and friends. She was once the "life of the party" and enjoyed being around people. She still waved with a big smile every day at all the staff at the Grand Islander Center right up until the day she passed.She is survived by her sons, Michael J. Gaston and his wife Joan of Middletown, James J. Gaston of Middletown, Richard J. Gaston and his wife Helen of Middletown, her sister, Dorothy (Chaves) Gould of Middletown, her grandchildren Richard Gaston of Marietta, GA, Jason Gaston of Portsmouth, RI, Monique C. Frost of Lighthouse Point, FL, David Gaston of East Wareham, MA, Jared Gaston of Newport, RI and Chantal N. Gaston of St. Augustine, FL, her great grandchildren Alexis G. Gaston, London O. Gaston, Lyla C. Frost and Carter P. Frost and many nieces and nephews. Also her step grandchildren, step great grandchildren, and step great great grandson Jayce. She was the sister of the late State Senator Joseph J. Chaves and Mary L. Silvia.Calling hours will be held on Friday, October 21 from 4:00-7:00pm in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.Her funeral will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at 9am, from the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am, in Jesus Saviour Church, Broadway, Newport.
