Marjorie L. MacDonald, age 100, of Portsmouth, R.I., passed away peacefully on June 12, 2018. Born in Newport, R.I. she was the daughter of Bernard Harvey and Mable Harvey. Marjorie was the wife of late Alan F. MacDonald.She was born a year before the end of World War I and grew up during the '20s and during the Great Depression in Newport.Marge graduated from Rogers High School in 1935 and Rhode Island State College (U.R. I.) in 1939, where she earned a BA degree and also lettered there in field hockey.During WWII, she worked at the Newport Gas Light Company; and afterwards she married Alan F. MacDonald, who had been a pilot in the South Pacific during the war. They raised three sons, and, at the age of 50, Marge went back to school in education, attained her degree, and taught at Melville School in Portsmouth.After retirement, she took up golf in her 60's.A stroke curtailed her active life at the age of 90, but not her mind or sense of humor. She will be missed.Marjorie is survived by her sons Kenneth MacDonald and his wife Joanna, Gary MacDonald, Gregory MacDonald, her brother Vernon Harvey, grandchildren Ashley MacDonald, Eric MacDonald, Chelsea MacDonald, and 5 generations of nieces and nephews.In addition to her husband she is preceded in death by her brothers, James Harvey, Norman Harvey, Robert Harvey, and her sister Roberta Hallbourg.Visitation will be held Friday June 15, 2018 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Connors Funeral Home 55 W Main Road, Portsmouth, RI 02871.Her funeral will be held on Saturday, June 16, 2018, 9:00 AM, from the funeral home, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Anthony's Church 2836 E Main Road Portsmouth, RI 02871.Burial to follow in St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown.Additional information at
