Marjorie Payton, 72, of Newport, Rhode Island, passed away on January 11, 2019 at Newport Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
Marjorie was born March 24, 1946 in Newport, RI to the late William Scheel and the late Margaret (Shelman) Scheel.
After finishing school Marjorie married the love of her life in 1967 and started a family. She was a stay at home mom for many years before going to work at Salve College as a general office clerk and then working in the mailroom. She worked at Flying Colors, sewing flags and also worked at Walmart. For many years she was also an active member of Portsmouth Grange, Newport County Pomona Grange and RI State Grange. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, more than anything else.
Marjorie is survived by her children Paul Payton and his wife Koren Payton of Warwick, RI, Kenneth Payton and his wife June Payton of Middletown RI, Kathleen Chapman and her husband Robert Chapman of Newport, RI and her brother William Scheel and his wife Mary Scheel of Richmond RI, her grandchildren Michael Mulligan, Jonathan Chapman, Taylor Payton, Christopher Chapman, Caitlyn Chapman, Kayla Kuykendall-Fox, Trey Cruz, Britany Dry and Ashely Cesario.
She was preceded in death by her husband William Payton, her Brother Fred Scheel and sister Evelyn Maffei.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, January 17, 2019 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Memorial Funeral Home 375 Broadway in Newport.
Her funeral will be held on Friday, January 18, 2019, at 10:00 AM in the funeral home.
Burial will be in Newport Memorial Park, 123 Howland Avenue in Middletown, RI.
