Mrs. Mary A. Mathis (nee Lisowski), of Middletown, RI, passed away on September 22, 2016 at the age of 61 after a courageous battle against cancer.Mary was born to parents Jerome and Helen Lisowski on August 16, 1955 in Blair, WI. She grew up as the second eldest of nine. She graduated from Milwaukee Area Technical College where upon she became a registered nurse. Throughout her nearly 40 year nursing career, she worked in emergency and trauma, family medicine, child development, elderly care, hospice, and mental illness. In 1984, she married John R. Mathis. Her husband was an officer in the U.S. Navy, and together they did two tours in Japan, one in Washington, one in Nebraska, and a lengthy stay in Rhode Island. Mary was passionate about sewing, knitting, quilting, scrapbooking, and all other crafts. She was known for her kindness and originality through her handcrafted gifts. She was an avid reader, a relentless shopaholic, and a diehard Green Bay Packers fan. Mary had a deep love for dogs and is survived by her napping fur friend, Peanut. She was most notably known for her quick-witted, sassy humor which she maintained throughout her final months.Mary is survived by her husband, John Mathis; her daughters, Kimberly Mathis and Katlynn Mathis; her mother, Helen Lisowski; her brothers, Terry Lisowski, Randy Lisowski, Michael Lisowski, and Kevin Lisowski; and her sisters, Patricia Unger, Rochelle Vlaj, and Roxy Wedwick. She is preceded in death by her father, Jerome, and her brother, Robert Hauge.Services will be private.
