Mary E. Casavant Cedrone

Mary E. (Fay) Casavant Cedrone, 94, of Middletown, RI passed away Saturday, September 30, 2017 at the John Clarke Nursing Center. She was the wife of the late Edward V. Casavant, and Louis J. Cedrone. Born in Newport, she was the daughter of the late Charles J. and Agnes (Hughes) Fay.Mary grew up in Newport, RI and attended Newport Schools. She worked as a dental hygienist in Newport for Dr. Friedman before marrying Edward Casavant and moving to Newton, MA where Edward was a Newton Police Officer. She worked in Newton as a librarian for the City of Newton. Upon his death, Mary married Louis Cedrone, who was also a Newton Police Officer. They subsequently moved to Dennisport, MA where they operated the Lauderdale Motel for many years. Mary also worked for the Yarmouth School Department as a Teacher's Aide and retired at 80 years of age. After her retirement, Mary moved back to Newport where she is beloved by many family and friends.She is survived by her sons, Edward V. Casavant Jr. and his wife Barbara of Middletown, RI, Charles J. Casavant and his wife Jacqueline of Westwood, MA and Robert W. Casavant and his wife Theresa of Newton, MA. She also leaves her grandchildren, John E. Casavant and his wife Emily, Jill M. Ryan and her husband Thomas, Jennifer Maitano and her husband Paul, Ivy Casavant, Robert Casavant Jr., and his wife Katie, Michael Casavant, Christina Towers and her husband Jeffrey and her grandson-in-law Arthur Schwall. Mary is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Ryan and Courtney Casavant, TJ and Brendan Ryan, Cory and Jenna Schwall, Leah Maitino, Stella and Robert (lll) Casavant as well as a great-great-grandson Jayden Schwall Casillas. She leaves her sister Patricia Wilson and nieces and nephews, Michael, Patrick and Joseph Fay, William and James Wilson, Elizabeth Frasca and Ellen Weinhold.Mary was the grandmother of the late Margaret P. Schwall and sister of the late Charles Fay, Jr..Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, October 4, 2017 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI.Her funeral will be Thursday, at 9:00 AM from the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 AM in St. Josephs Church, Broadway at Mann Avenue Newport, RI. Visitation will also be held Friday from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM in the Chapel at Newton Cemetery, 791 Walnut Street, Newton, MA, followed by graveside committal prayers at 12:00 PM.Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 245 Waterman Street, Suite 306, Providence, RI 02906.
