Mary Louise (Ide) Greeley, PhD, 80, of Middletown, Rhode Island, passed away at Newport Hospital on October 10, 2024.

Mary Louise was born in North Dighton, Massachusetts to the late Warren Monroe Ide and Mary Elizabeth Barry, both of Taunton. She was the wife of the late John J. Greeley Sr, S.T.D.

After Mary Louise graduated from South Lancaster Academy, she received her Bachelor's of Science in Medical Technology from the University of Massachusetts, and her Master's of Arts in Teaching (Biology) from Rhode Island College. She then attended the University of Florida, and in 1979 she received her Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. In 1979, Mary Louise became the Chair of the Department of Biology and Biomedical Sciences at Salve Regina University in Rhode Island. She would stay with Salve Regina University until she retired in 2011 after 32 years.

Mary Louise also served on the Norman Bird Sanctuary Board for many years, and enjoyed spending time gardening in her flower beds, and tending to her cats.

Mary Louise is survived by her son John J. Greeley Jr., of Middletown, RI, and her brother Warren (Lee) Ide of New Bedford, Massachusetts.

Funeral services for Mary Louise Greeley will be held on Saturday, October 19th, 2024 at 10am at St. Mary's Church, Spring Street, Newport RI
